EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE

What is Emotional Freedom Technique?

EFT is an impressive technique for eliminating emotional and physical problems by rebalancing the energy system of the body. EFT is a simple, rapid, respectful way of healing a wide variety of fears, memories, disturbances. Its effects often seem miraculous, even to those who are skeptical.

EFT has been described as "like acupuncture for emotions, without the needles." It is based on an understanding of energy meridians; emotional issues are healed by tapping on the end points of energy meridians to unblock energy flow in the body. This restoration of balance simply eliminates emotional problems, and many resulting physical difficulties or diseases.

"EFT is based on the discovery that imbalances in the body's energy system have profound effects on one's personal psychology. Correcting these imbalances, which is done by tapping on certain body locations, often leads to rapid remedies... People simply get beyond their emotional luggage, usually permanently, and go about their lives more effectively."
- Gary Craig, developer of the Emotional Freedom Technique.

What is impressive about EFT

  • Effective - EFT reduces emotional and physical pain by at least half more than 90% of the time and eliminates the pain of the specific issue completely about 70% of the time. EFT often works when nothing else will.
  • Rapid - most problems are eliminated in two to five sessions of 30 to 60 minutes. Some are gone within the first few minutes.
  • Respectful - the therapist taps gently on specific points on your face and collarbone region. No drugs, no surgery.
  • Gentle - you do not have to revisit an experience to heal its effects. EFT works even if you are unwilling or unable to describe an issue or event.
  • Long-lasting - The benefits of EFT are often permanent from a single session.
  • Integrative - EFT does not conflict with any other forms of treatment of any kind. There are no side effects or contraindications.
  • Portable - you learn basic forms of EFT in the session, to use for the issue that brought you to the session or for anything else.
  • Universal - EFT works with all ages, and even with animals.

And most of all, EFT works.

WES GIETZ TAPS INTO HEALING

by Tracy Dixon

A new treatment on the healing arts scene is Emotional Freedom Technique, or "EFT." Hailed as a technique that will "dramatically change your world" by developer Gary Craig, it proves to be revolutionary in curing disorders such as life-long phobias, often after one short session.

Wes Gietz, a practitioner of this ten-year old method, is newly located in the Comox Valley. The technique rebalances the body's energy system by working on the end-points of meridians (energy lines that run throughout the body) -- some of the same points that would be stimulated in acupuncture and acupressure. The theory of EFT can be summed up as "The cause of all negative emotion is a disruption in the body's energy system." This means that an emotional or physical trauma causes a disruption in the body's energy system, and the disruption in the body's energy system then causes negative emotion, which can also manifest as physical illness.

Wes Gietz was introduced to this work by a friend in Victoria who insisted he try a weekend course. He was convinced of its incredible benefits, experiencing success in healing from personal issues, including physical pain and an increase in his concentration and abilities as an athlete. He likes EFT because of its gentle and respectful approach. The client does not have to reexperience a trauma. This allows people to detach emotionally from the experience while getting to the cure.

A commonly-held belief with psychological issues is that if a problem has existed for a long time then it needs long-term treatment in order for it to be resolved. EFT's theory believes just the opposite: that if it takes a long time to heal something then the treatment isn't getting to the root of the problem. Wes says that issues are usually resolved within five half-hour sessions, and often only one or two are needed.

A typical session with Wes involves a brief discussion of the client's reason for being there (no 'tell me your life story', Wes emphasizes), and establishing verbal cues, or "reminders" that will be used during the treatment to evoke the triggering disturbance. Wes then "sets up" the body's energy system, using light touch and words to clarify the intention. And then EFT, which consists of a universal routine of "tapping" (a light thump) on certain meridian end-points, incorporating eye-movement and sound to activate both sides of the brain and enhance the effects of the treatment. Sometimes success can be achieved within a very short time, as in the case of "Mary", who within minutes was cured of a lifelong water phobia, and after 10 years is still free of it!

"I like that people can learn it for themselves," says Wes. EFT can also assist in the recovery of addictions, healing from stress, trauma and grief, and can help with freeing oneself of negative emotions, self-doubt, and increasing one's confidence. It is also useful with many physical problems.
